Turning Research into Better Learning for Somali Children
Sababaro is an initiative of the Sababi Institute, shaped by more than a decade of research and evaluation across the Somali education ecosystem. We develop practical responses to the questions, challenges, and opportunities identified through that work.
Publishing
Sababaro publishes Somali-language books and educational materials designed to make reading and storytelling more enjoyable, engaging, and accessible. Our collection includes both translations of well-loved stories and original works developed for Somali-speaking children and families. We aim to create books that children are excited to pick up, that caregivers enjoy reading aloud, and that teachers can use to build curiosity, language skills, and a lasting interest in books.
Our publishing work brings together writers, translators, illustrators, educators, and researchers to develop stories that feel lively, relevant, and rooted in the experiences of Somali readers. Alongside children’s books, we also publish poetry, learning resources, and other Somali-language materials for readers of different ages. By expanding the range of appealing books available in Somali, we hope to support more shared reading at home, more engaging learning in schools, and more opportunities for children to see their language reflected in the stories they read.
